Fragrance and I don’t have the best history. Growing up, mom would get me all kinds of smell goods only for them to go bad on my dresser. I would forget to spray some on before school or not like the scents she picked for me. Many, MANY years and one KathleenLights later, I got curious about fragrances and set out to find the perfect one.
So far I have 3! I love them and they don’t give me super strong headaches (or none at all)
Zoella Beauty Blissful Mistful – 1.5 Fl oz. for $12
This is the most affordable fragrance in my new stash. It is my favorite out of all the Zoella Beauty fragrances. It has such a clean scent that isn’t over powering. Every website I’ve checked says that it has a feminine floral scent. The packaging is SO nice that it’s a little hard to believe that this perfume only cost twelve dollars. A glass bottle with a good nozzle. On me, It fades quickly, but most of my purses can hold it so I can spritz more on throughout the day.
Good Chemistry Queen Bee – 1.7 Fl oz. for $24.99
Every trip to target brings around a surprise. This time I was shocked to see them come out with a line of fragrances. There are 4 collections : Confident & Charming, Good & Grounded, Vibrant & Playful, and Cool & Collected. The one I fell in love with is from the vibrant and playful line. It is called Queen Bee! The notes are black currant, peony, and amber. It smells so good and it works so well with my skin I’m obsessed! The Good Chemistry perfumes are vegan (didn’t know this could be a thing), paraben & phthalate free. Now this one lasts all. day. long. Don’t have to carry it around with me because there’s no need. Nice glass packaging and good nozzle. I also don’t mind the price. Compared to other scents, roller balls are more expensive.
Lancome La Vie est Belle- Roller Ball is $26 and. that. is. enough.
There are three super expensive & luxurious scents that I will spend money on. La vie est belle comes in a roller ball so it’s the one of the three I have. This is the epitome of a perfume working with ones body chemistry. It feels like I came out the womb smelling like this perfume. Notes are iris, patchouli, & gourmand (idk about that last one. your guess is as good as mine). I do get the “that’s what my grandma/aunt/ other older family member wears” and honestly I don’t care. It smells so good!
The morphe 35 R palette is one of the most beautiful palettes I own. Nothing will ever top a good brown eyeshadow and this palette has enough to last a life time! I made a whole video creating a gorgeous look using the 35R!
Pink is one of my favorite colors, Blush pink is turning into a classic staple, valentine’s day is coming up and this is a list of pink things that I LOVE!
These Asos pants are everything to me. They are pink, can be taken from work to street with a change of shoes, and are so comfy.
I will always find a way to get the Mario Badescu Rose Water spray into a post lol. This is the perfect rose water spray! It refreshes, hydrates, and it’s multi use. The bottle says facial spray but in a pinch, I have used it to slick my hair back and refresh my curls!
Garnier Gel Rescue:
This is my favorite moisturizer of all time, I’ve written so many posts like this one and this one singing its praises
Pink dinnerware is real and this set from target is amazing. The price is affordable and most items I get from target are of amazing quality.
The last thing is this “not your baby” dress from H&M. Yes they have had issues earlier this year, but I still like their clothing. It’s affordable, and the clothes fit me better than Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe.
Setting up a skin care routine has been a little difficult in my early 20s. Most of the people in life are telling me to wait because I’m so young and there’s still so much time. By starting a routine now, it’ll be easier to add more later on in life and I will already have tried-and-true basics to go to when my skin gets problematic. I have to wash my face because of makeup and hygiene, but I wanted a little more than just moisturizer and the Sunday face mask. My routine, after washing my face, is 3 steps so there’s no real excuse to not do it. That is key because I live to make excuses to get in bed faster! It also doesn’t change from day to night. It’s the same so I barely have to think about it. Right now that works really well.
After washing and drying my face I either brush my teeth for bed or am getting dressed for work or school. I need to dampen my face a little so I use a facial spray. My current favorites are the Mario badescu rose water spray or the Urban Decay quick fix. It’s easy and adds a boost of hydration.
This is the game changing step: SERUM. My skin changed SO MUCH when I started using a serum. I got a little freebie of the Bare Minerals skin longevity serum at Sephora. It made my face feel so nice, soft, and hydrated that I bought a full size and never looked back! What ever is in this bottle is doing amazing things and I feel like I’m going my skin every favor.
To seal in this layer of goodness, I moisturize using the Garnier Moisture Rescue . Oh my GOODNESS I love this moisturizer. I have oily skin, so I feel like it does the job without being greasy. It’s also a neat little dupe for the Clinique moisture surge which is another AMAZING moisturizer, but it’s on the more expensive side and sometimes I can’t afford both the serum and moisturizer. I actually wrote a post comparing the two here.
With that I am ready for makeup, or ready for bed!! I’m so happy to have found a regimen that works for my skin. Skincare is such a personal topic because everyone’s is so different but I wanted to share. What is your game changer when it comes to skin care?
So minimal makeup? It’s fast and easy; perfect for the working woman. It’s actually perfect for any situation because of it’s simplicity. I’ve broken down my routine into 5 steps that take me from just-rolled-out-of-bed to effortlessly put together.
Concealer/corrector: a peachy colored corrector can help with discoloration of dark circles and concealer helps make everything look like skin.
2. Powder Foundation: The coverage isn’t fantastic, but it is enough to make the skin seamless (aka you can’t tell where your concealer stops and my skin starts). With a light dusting, it also sets all of the cream products.
3. Bronzer: Yep, it’s extra and can be completely skipped, BUT HEAR ME OUT. Bronzer helps give dimension and color. It also doubles as eyeshadow.
4. Brows: Framing the face is essential when there is no time (or want) for full face. Defining the eyebrows, no matter how full they are, can be the difference between makeup that looks rushed, and the minimal makeup look I am trying to achieve.
5. Mascara & Liner: Again frame the face! Eyes are the window to the soul, draw attention to your windows! Mascara opens up the eyes, and a nude liner will make them look brighter.
There you have it, 5 easy steps to achieve a gorgeous minimal makeup look. What? The lips? Right so, I usually just use chapstick. Feel free to pair any lip color with this look! I guess that is 6 steps, but shhhhh consider it a bonus
So School? It sucks to be starting off on a bit of a down note, but I’m so crazy late to post about back to school. In truth, I’ve been discouraged about life and usually blogging is the first thing that drops off my radar when this happens. Let’s ease back into the swing of things with a bit of an edit! The rest of this post is a list of YouTube videos and other blog posts about style, beauty, and other things that I think will be really helpful for the school year! Some are school specific some aren’t, it’s all about taking what you need from them.
* I would like to make it very clear that all of the links below aren’t mine. These are videos and blog posts that I’ve found to be very useful, and wanted to make a nice little list of resources for anyone who may be looking for them 🙂 *
Let’s face it, an eye shadow palette is always a splurge. Whether it is from the drugstore or from the counters at Nordstrom, we get into a routine of using a handful of colors and leave the rest for the inspiring YouTube tutorial. Brands launch new palettes every season, so which ones are worth it?
Too Faced Sweet Peach and Semi Sweet Chocolate
The scented palettes Too Faced brings out are always a good purchase. The eyeshadow quality is amazing and can be used from beginner to professional. My top recommendations are the Semi-Sweet Chocolate palette and the Sweet Peach! The Semi sweet is on the cool toned side; it has the BEST shades for the crease. The Sweet Peach is the warm toned palette I LOVE. It’s so nice and easy to work with. The scents last a long time too; the chocolate is the oldest palette I own and she still smells incredible!
Affordable quality sums up the BH Cosmetics palettes. I got the Carli Bybel palette to be a supporter and fell in LOVE. This is my go-to everyday palette for work. On top of quality and price, the palette also comes with highlights!
Holy cow this palette is the definition of longevity. Of course, I got the Ultra Eye Contour and Light & Shade palette because it looks like the Kat Von D Shade and light eye palette, but at half the price. I wasn’t expecting the shadows to be so long wearing. It lasted a full day at Disney World, sweat and all. No creasing, and she stayed looking fresh (can’t say that for the rest of my makeup).
I’ve been collecting MAC lipsticks since I was in high school. It’s not a massive collection, but I love them and I have shades I actually want to use.
Persistence: This is the newest edition to the family. The website describes it as a peachy cinnamon color, and I call it my perfect nude. I’ve been using persistence the most frequently because it’s such an everyday color for me. Persistence is a matte finish but still super comfortable to wear all day long.
Del Rio: Del Rio is my favorite lipstick when I want a nice everyday color. I like to layer her underneath my Nyx matte liquid lipstick in french maid to make everything more comfortable. The color is described as a muted plum brown and is a satin finish.
Stone: Stone is what I use when I want a full on spice girls 90’s lip. My skin tone pulls the brown color more heavily than the taupe that others tend to get out of it. It is a matte finish (are we sensing a trend?) and a muted greyish taupe brow (straight from mac cosmetics website).
Rebel: My first love. Rebel is the first MAC lipstick I’ve ever owned and I have worn her to DEATH. I got her when I was into super bold lips because I couldn’t blend eye shadow. At one point, I would wear rebel every single day.
Viva Glam 1: This is my perfect red lipstick. It felt good to buy it because MAC donates money to an AIDS charity whenever someone buys products from the viva glam line.
So I did some shopping over the past month and a half… The good news is that I’ll have a ton of inspiration for new posts and videos for the next few weeks. The bad news is that now I have to find a new reason to justify my purchases lol. I filmed a video hauling my nw stash I will leave links to everything I showed in the description box of the video as well as here, happy watching!
